Nestled into the base of a timber-covered bluff at the confluence of Clearwater Creek and Big River, the lodge is 180 miles west of Anchorage and 80 miles southeast of McGrath. The headwaters of Big River form the corner of three distinct regions of Western Alaska.

The site is located at approximately Latitude 61° 54' North and Longitude 154° 33' West.

The elevation of the lodge is just over 1,400 ft. above sea level. If you stand on the porch and gaze straight south and work your way north in a panoramic fashion you'll see a solid line of mountains for 180 degrees. Beginning with the Southern Buttress of the Revelation Range at 9,200 ft. to Mt. Hesperus at 9,800 ft. and on to the multiple peaks of between 5,000 to 7,000 ft. of the Terra Cotta Range. These mountains erupt from their base and dominate the Upper Big River Canyon.
